Halloween: terror business

A no fool ...

The celebration of Halloween has been integrated into our culture almost displacing the ancient rites of the Day of the Dead, yet few know where or when we have this set of activities performed in ghoulish night of 31 October.
some thousands of years ago, the Celts were in what is now known as Great Britain and France, and celebrated the new year on November 1, ie with the celebration beginning Oct. 31 at night. But, something incomprehensible, not drunk! as usual now, but taking it very seriously, and his priests spent the night of Samhain, the death knight.
Great bonfires were lit, horses and sometimes even humans were sacrificed to ward off evil spirits and that the Celtic custom the dead returned on the night of Samhain, to seek food at the frightened villagers who cursed and were victims of their spells if they refused their requests (or give me or I make a prank, which is the translation of "Trick or Treat").
establishing centuries ago on 1 November, the feast of All Saints, haloween day in England. Where came the name, is believed to be a language problem, it was called (translated literally) as "All Hallows Day", and last night was called "All Hallow Even." With the familiar confusion, so used in English, this became "All Hallow E'en" and finally "Halloween."
Some years after this festival comes to America, brought by the Irish pioneers around 1840. It was they who added the "Jack-o-lantern" (the hollow pumpkin with a candle inside), since they had a legend of Jack (John) who was barred from entering Heaven and Hell (no holding him ) and walked around with a flashlight, cabbage was a hole with a burning coal inside (he had given the Devil himself!).
The Americans were more practical and used cabbage instead of a pumpkin is easier to hollow out.

The internationalization of Halloween was in the 80's through the television series. Hits the small screen as "Roseanne" began devoting a chapter each year to make Halloween pumpkin smiling in a picture as well known as Coca-Cola. Today Halloween is one of the most important dates estadounidenense and Canadian holiday calendar.
